Egypt Deports Journalist Peter Greste

Egypt has ordered the deportation of the Australian journalist Peter Greste, from the Qatari chain Al Jazeera, who had been sentenced to prison in June 2014 together with two colleagues for damaging the image of the country and collaborating with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Al Jazeera Television expressed its “satisfaction” with that decision, which allows Greste to leave Egypt after having been deprived of liberty for close to four hundred days.

In a statement, the television network noted that Greste will fly on Sunday in an Egyptair flight and recalled that his two companions are still in prison, the Egyptian with a Canadian passport Mohamed Fahmi and the Egyptian Baher Mohamed and called for the two of them to be released.
